The federal government has shelved the N5,000 hazard allowance for medical officials and has taken up a new scheme of payment for a period of an initial three months.

This was announced during the Presidential Task Force Press Conference on Monday. The new hazard allowance which is for an initial period of three months has been set at 50% of the salary of Health workers.

The federal government also secured an insurance police cover for health workers on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19.

Recall that the Lagos State government raised its hazard allowance for medical officers to N25,000 while the Federal Capital Territory Authority raised its to N50,000 for medical doctors, N30,000 for pharmacists and N20,000 for nurses.

Medical professionals have been calling for an upward review of the hazard allowance, with the request raised especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
