After the pictures of Enugu’s Ogbete Main Market pedestrian bridge went viral on social media, Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority has released a statement.

The statement disclosed  that ECTDA led by it’s Chairman, Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh, accompanied by the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, on Tuesday, carried out further reassessment of the ongoing Pedestrian Bridge construction, at Ogbete Main Market Enugu.

The team after its assessment of the bridge said it’s safe for public use on completion.

In a statement signed by Dr. Onoh, the ECTDA maintained that what was erroneously presented as a crack on the pedestrian bridge was “an expansion gap applicable in civil engineering” adding that “there is no stress or crack on the handrails indicating structural defects”.

The agency therefore maintained that “there is nothing to worry about” and urged residents of the state to disregard the erroneous impression earlier peddled on social media regarding the state of the bridge.
